A teenage girl died suddenly after her heart stopped working for unexplained reasons.
18-year-old Keira Dascoli-Guymer from Queensland, Australia, was a bubbly teen who was described as fit and healthy by her devastated family.
According to the reports, the young girl collapsed on June 17 after her heart suddenly gave out despite her being in good shape.
Following her collapse, Keira was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital where she spent ten days in a coma before her life support was turned off due to no signs of possible recovery.
Grieving mom Lisa Guymer has since the tragedy spoken out and revealed that the doctors were not able to establish a clear cause of death and that the girl’s family may never know what really happened to her.
“She didn’t have a heart attack, her heart just stopped and they don’t know why. It’s hard to try and accept they don’t know, and we may never know,” the mother told Courier Mail.
She further revealed that her daughter was a very active child who loved playing roller derby and saw it as a beautiful sport that allowed her to express herself and be who she was.
“She was the sweetest person you could meet who cared very much about the people around her, but she was always a little bit of an oddball,” Guymer added.
“Roller derby is generally a sport that is full of outcasts and people who have their own unique personalities, and very caring people. Once (she joined the sport) she finally felt she fit in.”
Paying a tribute to the aspiring roller derby star was also her coach who launched a GoFundMe page to help the grieving family get through this challenging time.
“Our amazing girl has also provided four lucky people the opportunity to live a longer life by donating some of her precious organs.
We know how much everyone would like to reach out and offer us support however at the moment we would much rather you take some time to remember her in your own way or attend our Celebrate Skate for Keira Event,” the page reads.
“Perhaps take in today’s sunset as she often felt most at peace during a beautiful sunset, as in the future we will often think of her, particularly at this time of the afternoon. Forever young and now free.”
Keira is survived by her two loving parents and two younger sisters. Our thoughts remain with her loved ones.
