A man burst into a hospital and shot multiple people before turning the gun on himself.
According to reports, the gunman was looking for ‘Dr. Philipps’ when he stormed into the Natalie Building at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and killed four people.
Police said that the shooter, who was armed with a handgun and a rifle, shot four people dead before he turned the weapon on himself.
Tulsa police rushed to the scene and arrived while the shooting was still happening, said Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish at a press conference.
“The officers that did arrive were hearing shots in the building, and that’s what directed them to the second floor,” he said.
Authorities then searched the building “floor by floor, room by room,” said Captain Richard Maulenberg of the Tulsa Department.
“It’s a catastrophic scene in there right now,” he told reporters.
It is unclear if the doctor the shooter targeted was also among the victims.
Officers are also investigating if the man hid a bomb at a residence in Muskogee but after a search, no explosives were discovered.
Police said that they are working on identifying the gunman.
“This wasn’t an individual who just decided he wanted to go find a hospital full of random people. He deliberately made a choice to come here and his actions were deliberate,” Captain Meulenberg added.
St. Francis Health System CEO Dr. Cliff Robertson: “There will obviously be many question, and there will be a very bumpy road,” adding that the shooting was a “senseless, horrible, incomprehensible act.”
President Biden said the White House was closely monitoring the situation.
In a statement, officials said: “The White House is closely monitoring the situation and has reached out to state and local officials to offer support.”
