Shocking reports are coming in from Virginia about a horrifying university shooting incident.
According to reports from local media outlets, a student gunman was believed to have killed three people and wounded two more after breaking through the entrance of the state’s University of Virginia gates.
This reportedly led to an aura of panic and chaos to strike across the board. The campus’s university police mentioned how the suspect was at large after the incident but was later captured moments later.
He was identified as Christopher Darnell Jones and was stated to be armed and a dangerous threat. The cops had also urged both students and staff members to be vigilant and stay indoors.
Shots could be heard being fired out in the area of Culbreth Road on University Grounds, as recently confirmed by the UVA police. They claim that it took place at 10:30 pm.
“UVA Alert: ACTIVE ATTACKER firearm reported in the area of Culbreth Road. RUN HIDE FIGHT”- this was the tweet sent out by the department, just ten minutes later.
A statement was later announced by University President Jim Ryan who stated in his message on Monday morning how Jones happened to be a student enrolled in the institution.
He later spoke about how so many law enforcement agencies were coordinating to find and capture him, adding how the suspect was believed to be driving a black-colored SUV, having a Virginia number plate attached.
As of now, the authorities are yet to release the identity of the victims or even revealed if they were students or staff members.
“We are really working closely with the families of the victims. And we will share some more details as soon as we are able to!”- he continued.
“This is a message that no leader ever wishes to send out”- he concluded in the end.
