The verdict for the appeal filed for WNBA star Brittney Griner is out and the Russian courts have reportedly rejected it.

The news has been called out as beyond disappointing by the star’s team of lawyers as Griner was seen begging for forgiveness of her mistake that has cost her nine years behind bars in Russia.

Griner and her legal team had asked for relief in the startling 9-year-long jail sentence awarded to the famous WNBA superstar.

While she was very nervous about the verdict yesterday, she did not attach a lot of hope to the case and knew that the chances for the appeal to be approved were more than slim.

And now that the verdict is out, a very subtle and calm Griner could be seen sitting inside her jail cell as this was the last ditch effort from her legal side.

But local media outlets claim that the Kremlin has yet to shut its doors on the case and there is a small hope that a prisoner exchange deal may arise if the US is willing.

Until and unless something of a miracle of that sort occurs, there are no chances of an acquittal anytime soon.

Critics are calling the punishment disproportionate to the type of offense committed. They feel it is too hard and deserves leniency. To put it simply, they are at odds with Russian judicial practice.

Meanwhile, another report spoke about how a former Russian envoy to the US mentioned how President Joe Biden wants the WNBS superstar free from jail for midterm boost as elections are expected to take place early next month.
