An elderly woman succumbed to her injuries after being mauled by a vicious XL American Bully.
83-year-old Shirley Patrick was at her home in Caerphilly, South Wales, when she suffered extensive lacerations and injuries during a “hellish” dog attack.
17 days after the incident, the woman died from sepsis at a local hospital, prompting the investigation into the dog attack to take on another spin.
Now, four people were arrested on suspicion of letting an out-of-control dog cause injury and death.
Besides Patrick, a 55-year-old man who is believed to be her son also suffered injuries in the attack but is expected to make a full recovery.
“If you have concerns or any information regarding this dog and its previous behavior then please do stop and talk with us,” Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Sedgebeer said.
The police further confirmed that the dangerous dog was seized and killed following the attack.
Recalling the attack, one neighbor explained how “all hell broke loose” after the animal charged the elderly woman.
“She was a nice old lady who you see walking around. Poor thing to suffer like that at her age,” the witness said.
It also came to our attention that Patrick, whose husband died three years ago, had a grandson who previously ran a dog-walking business at her home.
The young man, however, moved out of the house before the tragic incident.
Our thoughts are with Shirley’s family, friends, and neighbors during this challenging time.
