The furious family of a 2-year-old boy has spoken out after staff at a Maryland daycare center tied the youngster to a chair.
The Kids Villa Learning Center in Germantown shared a video of the children as one of them was celebrating a birthday.
But when Ruby Campbell watched the clip, she was shocked to see her grandson tied to a chair.
Campbell immediately contacted the staff members who were in the classroom when her grandson was seen bound to a chair.
She said that staff members told her that Sean refused to sit so they decided to restrain him with a towel.
Speaking to FOX 5, the furious grandmother said: “He was (in) no way acting any different from any normal two-and-a-half-year-old would act.”
She continued: “In the video, you could see there are other kids standing up. There are other kids moving around. So, I’m not going to say that he was acting unruly.
“I’m saying he’s acting like a two-and-a-half-year-old would act.”
The viral video has been deleted and the staff members who were in the classroom during the incident have been removed from the center for an indefinite period.
The video received a mixed reaction online, with one person commenting: “Parents and child care workers need skills. These can be taught. No excuses!”
Another wrote: “Ya, I would have loved to do that to my kids on more than one occasion.”
Speaking to the outlet, the center’s director said it does not have a policy on restraining children.
“We showed the video to the daycare director, and she was shocked too,” Campbell said. “She couldn’t believe what she was seeing too.”
The toddler’s family reportedly filed a complaint with child protective services as well as a police report.
Sean has since been transferred to another daycare center.
