At least 37 people have died because of the blizzard that hit the northeastern US and Canada over the Christmas weekend.

52-year-old Monique Alexander was one of the people who died after she left her home amid the storm.

In an interview with CNN, her grieving daughter Casey Maccarone spoke about her anxiety about the extreme weather conditions that hit her hometown.

Her mother left the home they shared and said she would be right back but didn’t mention where she was going.

Casey assumed her mother wanted to go to the store before they closed because of the storm.

But Maccarone quickly became concerned for her mother’s safety when she didn’t come back home right away.

“We were waiting for her to come home. I knew something was wrong right away though, so I kind of accepted it instantly,” Maccarone said.

“It’s hard knowing that she was outside for so long, too, because there were no emergency responders allowed to come outside.”

She also said that her mother had experienced severe weather conditions before and that she was ‘invincible’ and ‘superwoman.’

“I’m assuming that she just thought she could handle the conditions,” Maccarone added.

According to reports, the grandma left the house around 3 pm on Christmas Eve. When she failed to return home after a few hours, Maccarone took to Facebook and asked if anybody had seen her.

A man then reached out to her and broke down in tears as he explained that he found Alexander’s lifeless body when he got stranded.

He said that he moved the body under the awning of a company nearby as some areas reached more than 50 inches deep of snow.

“My kids they lost their grandmother, and that was the most important role in her life… being a good grandmother,” Maccarone told CNN. “Now they just have memories.”
