Olympic medalist Tori Bowie was found dead at a home in Orlando, Florida at the age of 32.
The body of the two-time world champion in track and field was found at her home after the local sheriff’s department carried out a ‘wellbeing check of a woman in her 30s who had not been seen or heard from in several days.’
According to reports, the runner’s sudden death is not being treated as suspicious.
Bowie scooped three gold medals, with the first being won at the 2016 Olympics. She received another gold at the 2017 World Athletics Championships In London, and won another gold in the 100m.
Her management company took to Instagram and confirmed the heartbreaking news, writing: “We’re devastated to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away. We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister.
“Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family, friends and everyone that loved her.”
It added: “As the story continues to develop, we ask that you please respect our privacy.”
Max Siegel, the CEO of USA Track and Field, said in a statement: “USATF is deeply saddened by the passing of Torie Bowie, a three-time Olympic medalist, and two-time world champion. A talented athlete, her impact on the sport is immeasurable, and she will be greatly missed.”
The Mississippi-born athlete loved playing basketball as a child before starting to enjoy running, winning state titles in the 100m, 200m, and long jump.
In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, Bowie said: “I remember just racing everywhere as a child, like in the trees, wherever … I raced all the time.”
