A teenage girl was stabbed to death after flying abroad to spend time with her boyfriend and meet his family.
19-year-old Ashley Wadsworth from Vernon, Canada, traveled to the UK last November with the intention of meeting her boyfriend, Jack Sepple, and his family.
For two months, the couple enjoyed their dates and spent time traveling around England and exploring places Ashley had never seen before in person.
Just days before her planned return to Canada, however, the teen was attacked and stabbed to death at an apartment block in Chelmsford, Essex.
The police arrived at the scene after neighbors reported domestic disturbance only to find the young lady dead at the scene.
Following the incident, the police have arrested an unnamed 23-year-old man who remains in custody on suspicion of murder. According to the authorities, the 23-year-old is currently the prime and only suspect.
After the brutal murder, Ashley’s family paid tributes to the young girl on Facebook.
“I am so angry, sad and f **ing mad. Want to say so much right now, but mama always said if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all,” aunt Rosie Turcotte expressed. “Another special angel gone way too soon.”
“She had a ticket for this Thursday to come back home to people who love her dearly,” family friend Larissa Kontos added. “You will never be forgotten my girly. And I’ll miss you so much.”
While the police have yet to officially confirm the victim’s identity, Detective Chief Inspector Scott Egerton revealed that there is “no wider risk to the community” and that the stabbing appears to be an isolated incident.
“We have a team of dedicated officers working around the clock to establish the circumstances which led to a woman losing her life,” Egerton said.
“The investigation is progressing well, but we will remain on scene for a few more days whilst we continue to gather evidence and establish the facts.”
Our thoughts are with Ashley’s family and friends during these challenging times.
