A 7-year-old girl whose older sister was killed by a tornado last week is now learning to walk again.
With the help of a neck brace and a walker, Avalinn Rackley managed to take her first steps as she walked across her hospital room after a successful surgery.
“Good job! You’re doing so good,” her family members can be heard cheering in the video.
The brave girl was seen smiling as workers at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital assisted her.
Speaking to Daily Mail, Avalinn’s great-aunt Sandra Hooker said that the 7-year-old should be home by the weekend with her grandmother.
Avalinn’s mother, 32-year-old Meghan, suffered a severe brain injury and is still fighting for survival. The family said that they still need a miracle.
Avalinn’s grandmother Pamela Moore took to Facebook and wrote about the girl’s physical therapy session: “This girl has been the bravest little girl. She has won the heart of everyone in this hospital.
“She has been so strong. I just know that her big sister Anni is right with her. I can feel it.”
The Rackley family’s plight captured the attention of the nation when a photo of Avalinn and her sisters Alanna, 3, and Annistyne, 9, taking shelter in the bathroom went viral on social media as over 30 tornadoes hit several states, killing more than 88 people.
“I was flying around in the tornado and I prayed to Jesus to take care of me, and he spit me out – and the tornado spit me out into the mud,” Avalinn told doctors.
Speaking to KAIT 8, Hooker said: “Our family members believe in a God of miracles and that is why we are here today. To ask God for a miracle and give us a miracle for Meghan.”
Mandi Alexander, a long-time friend of Meghan’s, said: “The loss, it is exponential. There are no words.”
