A toddler was found unresponsive in a pond near her home after disappearing without a trace.
The 2-year-old little girl in question was discovered in a village pond near Bordon, England, shortly after 5 pm on Sunday after her family from Kingsley reported her as missing.
According to the reports, the child was initially rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on the following day.
It was since revealed that the police arrested a woman in her 40s on suspicion of murder. Her connection to the child, if any, remains unclear.
“What was strange was the way they were protecting the scene, like there may have been something suspicious,” one witness said as they explained that the whole pond was cordoned off by armed officers.
Another local said the police went from house to house to ask if anyone heard or saw anything in search of clues.
“There are houses that back onto the pond and the common but the terrain is thick and it would be difficult for a toddler to make it that far,” the witness continued.
Meanwhile, the police confirmed the shocking incident in a statement while failing to mention who the suspect was or what her relation to the child was.
“Police were called at 5.02 pm on Sunday, 10 September, to a report of a two-year-old girl who had gone missing from her home on Forge Road, Kingsley, Bordon. She was found a short time later in Kingsley Pond,” they said.
“She was taken to hospital in a serious condition but sadly died this afternoon. Her family are being supported by officers. Officers are working to establish exactly what happened and are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Kingsley Pond yesterday, prior to the incident.
“Officers will be in the area so please feel free to approach them if you have any concerns or information. A woman, aged in her 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. She is currently in police custody.”
