A young girl who captured the hearts of millions while battling her terminal condition has passed away.
4-year-old Aria Hodgkiss from Wales was diagnosed with a brain tumor on her third birthday back in May 2021.
Leaving the child’s parents devastated and in shock, Aria’s doctors informed the family that she had just 12 months to live due to Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a highly aggressive form of brain cancer.
Despite her terminal illness, Aria remained positive and managed to capture the hearts of millions including high-profile celebrities like Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.
Earlier this year, Reynolds and McElhenney pledged a total of more than $20,000 to fund alternative treatment in hopes of prolonging the little girl’s very short life.
In addition, Good Samaritans raised as much as $80,000 for the embattled family via GoFundMe.
Sadly, Aria now succumbed to her illness in peace while surrounded by her family.
“Our brave warrior, our baby girl Aria, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 12:30 am,” the family revealed in a tragic post.
“We are absolutely devastated and we have no idea how we will carry on each day. But, we promise you that we will carry on for you. We love you so so much Aria.”
Tributes to the young girl have since started pouring in with people expressing sympathy for the family and their loss.
“Absolutely heartbreaking. All my love and strength I’m sending to you all,” someone wrote.
“So sorry for your loss. Thoughts with you all,” another said.
A third penned: “My deepest sympathy to her parents. She’s at play with the angels now.”
Our thoughts are with Aria’s family during this challenging time.
