A 6-year-old girl has spoken out after she and her parents were shot by their furious neighbor after a basketball rolled into his yard.
On April 18, several children were playing a game when their ball rolled into the front yard of Robert Singletary, 24, in Gastonia, North Carolina.
The homeowner was so angry that he ran down the street and opened fire at a neighbor.
According to WSOC-TV, Singletary started to shoot William White who was running away with his daughter, Kinsley.
The father was left injured after shielding his daughter and is now recovering in the hospital. His wife, Ashley Hilderbrand, and their daughter were brazed by a bullet.
Kinsley told the news station: “We don’t even know the man. Why did you shoot my daddy and me? Why did you shoot a kid’s dad?”
Hilderbrand also said that the gunman had threatened her husband and daughter’s lives.
“He looked at my husband and my daughter and told them, ‘I’m going to kill you,’” she told the outlet.
The mother is now recovering at home wit her daughter and said that their neighbor kept firing at them until he ran out of bullets.
Kinsley’s heartbroken grandmother, Carolyn Hilderbrand, also said: “I believe he would have got me and my husband too. He just run out of bullets.”
Gaston County Police said that Singletary has been charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
“I want to say to the people of Gaston County – this sort of violence will not stand,” said Police Chief Stephen Zill in a statement.
