A 4-year-old girl was left fighting for her life after she was shot in the neck by a stranger during a road-rage incident.
Little Itali Oakley from Memphis, Tennessee, was heading to dinner together with her parents when an unidentified driver opened fire on their car and critically shot the child.
According to the reports, the driver of the other vehicle started shooting at the family after they accidentally cut them off in the 1000 block of South Perkins Avenue.
As Charlene Dearing, Itali’s grandmother, revealed, the girl was struck in the neck by one of the bullets.
Dearing, who wanted to go to dinner with Itali and her parents before changing her mind and deciding to stay at home, also recalled the moment the family rushed back home and started yelling for her to call the police.
“Dad, I don’t feel good. I’m bleeding, dad,” the 4-year-old told her dad after getting shot.
While the family was waiting for the paramedics to arrive, Itali’s dad was allegedly pleading with his daughter to stay awake.
“Itali, please don’t go to sleep. Don’t go to sleep. Don’t go to sleep,” he urged his child, Action News 5 reported.
Following several hours in the hospital and emergency surgery, Itali was put on a ventilator. Her family has since confirmed that her condition has begun improving.
“I pray that God heals your heart. I pray he heals your family as well because that’s somebody’s child,” Dearing said as she addressed the suspect who nearly killed her granddaughter.
As of this writing, the suspect is yet to be identified and arrested.
