A 9-year-old girl from Liverpool, UK, who was shot dead inside her home was left to die and was not helped by the witnesses.
Olivia Pratt-Korbel, 9, was inside her Kingsheath Avenue home with her mother, Cheryl, when a gunman wearing a balaclava stormed the building while chasing his intended victim.
While Cheryl tried her best to block the door and stop the shooter from entering, the man opened fire and shot the woman in the wrist. The bullet reportedly passed through the mother’s wrist and flew straight into the chest of her daughter who was standing behind her.
After the horrific shooting, the friends of the gunman’s intended victim – a 35-year-old man – allegedly stormed the home and rushed the man to the hospital while leaving the child and her wounded mother behind.
The girl was eventually found by the police who rushed her to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The child’s mother, Cheryl, is currently staying at another hospital where she is recovering from her injuries.
Following the shocking incident, the police confirmed that the mother and her daughter had no connection whatsoever to the intended victim or the man’s friends.
The authorities also urged anyone with information that could bring the cowardly gunman to justice to step forward and speak up.
“They will have vital information that can help us.
The killing of a nine-year-old child is an absolute tragedy and crosses every single boundary, and I would urge them to do the right thing so we can put this person behind bars,” Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said as she urged “members of the criminal fraternity” to turn the killer over.
She added: “If people are frightened to come forward, we can have those conversations in confidence. Please come forward and let us work with you, so that you can feel confident to give us that information and not feel frightened around the reprisals.”
Our thoughts are with Olivia’s family during this tragic time.
