A young girl from Texas shot her own father before turning the gun on herself, police said.
The 12-year-old girl reportedly made a murder pact with her best friend, spending weeks plotting to kill their pets and families before driving off to Georgia, Parker County Sheriff’s Office said.
When her friend failed to keep her end of the bargain, she took her own life in the street outside their family home.
In a press release, police said in a statement: “Sheriff’s investigators said the juvenile is believed to have shot her father, fled the scene, and later shot herself. A handgun was located lying underneath the juvenile suspect.”
Police said they rushed to the scene at around 11:30 pm Tuesday in Weatherford, Texas. They found the 12-year-old outside their home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her head.
Her 38-year-old father was found inside the house with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
It is not clear why the girls wanted to take the lives of their families and runaway together.
Jessica Pebsworth, Lufkin Communications Director, said: “It doesn’t matter if they live in a small town or a big city. Things like this can happen, unfortunately.
“I will say that this case is definitely a time to remind parents that it’s very important to know who your children are friends with, whether that’s in the classroom, social media apps, Snapchat, TikTok and then also gaming platforms.”
Police did not release the name of the girls because of their age. They also withheld the name of the injured father to protect the children.
