The 16-year-old California girl who was missing for two weeks after disappearing from a party was found dead in her car.
Kiely Rodni was at an outdoor party in Tahoe National Forest on August 6 when she suddenly vanished just moments after letting her mother know that she was already on her way back home.
After the teen failed to return to her Truckee home, her concerned family called the police and Lake Tahoe was searched from the air.
In the following days, the local investigators were joined by the FBI and Adventures With Purpose, a group that helps solve cold cases and disappearances, to search more ground and follow up on hundreds of leads.
On Sunday, the Adventures With Purpose diving team discovered the teenager’s 2013 Honda CR-V in Donner Lake, just minutes away from the girl’s home.
After the vehicle was retrieved from the water, the authorities confirmed that human remains believed to belong to Rodni were found inside.
“WE JUST FOUND KIELY RODNI… Car is upside down in only 14’ of water. We have CONFIRMED Kiely is inside. Family Notified. Law Enforcement on their way. More updates to follow,” the volunteer group announced on Facebook.
“When you miss a loved one or a friend and you don’t know, it’s a nightmare,” the group’s leader, Doug Bishop, added.
Meanwhile, Kiely’s boyfriend, Jagger Westfall, spoke out and suggested that she knew how to get out of “sticky situations” and wouldn’t intentionally “put her life at risk.”
The boyfriend also confirmed he last spoke to her via texts some two hours before her disappearance when he messaged her and told her to “be safe” and “don’t do anything stupid.”
As of this writing, it is unclear if foul play was involved in the teen’s premature death. The police have not yet identified or apprehended any potential suspect(s).
