A young girl was mauled to death by a dog while playing outside her home.
The shocking incident rocked the community of Netherfield in Milton Keynes, UK, where a four-year-old was attacked by a dog at 5 pm on Tuesday.
According to the authorities, the attack took place on Broadlands street where the police arrived at the back garden of a home only to find the child’s lifeless body.
While no arrests have yet been made in connection to the brutal incident, the police have confirmed that the dog has been “humanely destroyed” following the attack.
They also vowed to investigate the girl’s death after shutting off the entire street.
“This is an absolutely tragic incident in which we believe that a child has been killed after being attacked by a dog,” Superintendent Matt Bullivant said.
“Clearly we are in the very early stages of an investigation, and it would be wrong and unhelpful to speculate as to the exact circumstances of this incident at this point.
“However, in order to ensure public safety, a decision was made earlier this evening to destroy the dog involved, and this has been done humanely.”
The investigator went on to reassure the residents that there is no immediate danger to the public while recognizing the emotional toll the child’s death will have on the local community.
“Anyone with concerns should feel free to approach our officers and ask questions, but I urge people not to speculate about the circumstances, especially on social media platforms,” Bullivant added.
“I also understand that this case is likely to attract attention from the media. With this in mind I would like to ask that the privacy of the family involved is respected at this very difficult time. It is impossible to imagine what they must be going through at the moment.”
