A young man was arrested after killing three people during his drug-induced killing spree in Florida.
19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses was ‘high’ when he was apprehended by the police on Thursday following a triple homicide in Pine Hills, Florida.
According to the reports, the teenager shot and killed three people over the span of five hours of drug-induced rage.
Among the victims were a 38-year-old woman, Nathacha Augustin, and Florida journalist Dylan Lyons. The police also identified the third victim, a 9-year-old girl T’Yonna Major.
As the police revealed, the suspect first killed Augustin, who was riding in the passenger seat of his cousin’s car.
The cousin allegedly offered Moses a free ride only for the 19-year-old to shoot the other passenger in the chin and flee the scene.
Later, the gunman returned to the scene and gunned down reporter Dylan Lyons who was working in the area.
After yet another escape, Moses broke into a nearby home and killed the 9-year-old girl. He also injured the child’s mother who was rushed to the hospital after the incident.
“Senseless violence has taken the life of my little girl, T’Yonna Major. She was a light to everyone that knew her. She was everything to us,” the little girl’s father expressed in a GoFundMe page he launched to secure funds for his daughter’s funeral and his wife’s treatment.
“She was a great student at the top of her 3rd grade class and reading at a 5th grade level. She was outgoing as well as an amazing gymnast.
“We are trying to raise money for funeral costs, a memorial and therapy for our family to get thru this difficult time. Anything you can give would be appreciated. Our hearts also go out to the other victims in this tragedy. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. We thank you for your support.”
Meanwhile, the police confirmed that they are not looking for anyone else and that the person responsible for the killings had been caught.
“We are not looking for anyone else. This is our guy,” Sheriff Mina said. “When deputies took him down they thought he might be under the influence of some kind of drug but none of that has been confirmed – his eyes were dilated.”
He continued: “Moses is not speaking to us. We’re unable to determine a motive at this time. It’s unclear why he shot the first victim, why he targeted the folks in the news media and it’s unclear why he shot a nine year old and her mother.
“We’d like to answer this for our community – why did he do this? Why did he shoot these people? His firearm was empty, thankfully. I’m not sure if he would have kept shooting people in that community.”
Our thoughts remain with the victims of the shooting and their families during this challenging time.
