A 5-year-old girl was murdered by her parents in ‘honor killing’ after she was kidnapped by a stranger in the Al-Shahba area of Syria.
Her remains were discovered in a garbage container on January 27 and were taken to Al Furat Hospital in easter Aleppo.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the Internal Security Forces have arrested some of the girl’s family members.
The SOHR also said that the girl’s parents have denied murdering their child and investigations are still ongoing.
The 5-year-old girl reportedly left her house to see her father in a local olive orchard when she was kidnapped and r*ped by an unidentified man.
She was later found near a road between the Kafr Naha and Deir Jamil villages.
The SOHR has called for the authorities to ensure the girl’s killers stand trial amid the rise of so-called ‘honor killings’ in the country.
Last year, a young woman identified as 18-year-old Eida Al-Hamoudi Al-Saeedo was taken to an abandoned house where she was shot by her family in ‘honor killing’ after she refused to marry her cousin and tried to run away with her boyfriend, Akhbaralaan.net reported.
Eida had been dragged to the abandoned house by her brother and their father, along with other men from their tribe, according to Alarabiya.
She was beaten and starved for many days before being shot by her family, the Violations Documentation Center in northern Syria said.
A spokesperson for the organization said: “(She was) brutally assaulted until the crime was completed by killing her with machine guns and pistols by more than one person.
“(The family) bragged about publishing a horrific video clip showing the murder of a girl by bullets, near an abandoned house in the countryside.”
