A young girl tragically lost her life in a house fire while enjoying a sleepover in her big sister’s bedroom.
5-year-old Alysia Salisbury was trapped in a massive blaze when a fire erupted at a family home in Pontyglasier, Wales, back on May 27.
The girl’s heartbroken mother has since revealed that her child was “nowhere to be seen” when the fire crews arrived at the scene to put out the fire.
While Alysia’s two older sisters were rescued from their bedroom, the young girl could not be found in time to save her life.
The child’s body was later discovered in her sisters’ bedroom as it was revealed that she was having a sleepover in their room.
The mother also opened up about the “constant pain” that the family has been going through “every single day” since the tragic incident. She also said her remaining two daughters “don’t know what to do with themselves” after their sibling’s death.
“The alarm went off at around 9 pm after Abi went downstairs to warm Lysi some brioche in the oven,” Tara Salisbury, Alysia’s mother, revealed.
“This was not unusual – it was an incredibly sensitive alarm and went off often when the oven was turned on. I ran downstairs to turn it off but by the time I realized that it wasn’t turning off and the oven wasn’t even on yet it was already too late.
“In the space of about two minutes the bedroom was already engulfed and no matter how desperately we tried we just couldn’t get in through the flames to reach my poor Lysi trapped inside.”
As of this writing, the fire remains under investigation.
In an interview with Sky News, the grieving mom also recalled the “worst feeling” she’s ever had when she heard her young daughter screaming for ‘mummy’ from behind a curtain of fire.
“The whole room was just completely and totally on fire. She was in there somewhere I just couldn’t see her and I couldn’t get to her. I tried so hard to get in there to her but I couldn’t,” Salisbury recalled.
She further revealed that it took the firefighters hours to find her daughter because the flames were too hot for anyone to get near the building much less inside.
“The fire has taken literally everything – our house, our possessions, the car and my beautiful little girl Lysi. It’s incredible how you can lose everything in a split second,” Salisbury added.
“[She was] the most fun-loving, free, adventurous little girl who didn’t have a mean bone in her entire body. Everything she met was lit up by her beautiful smile. In one night, everything was cruelly taken from us. Life is not fair.”
Our thoughts remain with Alysia’s loved ones during this challenging time.
