A 10-year-old girl tragically passed away just days before Christmas after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
Lily Rose Morris, 10, was a cheerful and outgoing little girl who suffered fatal injuries when she and her friend were struck by a driver who was driving under the influence while they were on their way to a local shop.
According to the reports, Lily suffered extensive injuries and died shortly after a driver struck her and her friend and slammed into a lamp post in Oldham, England.
Meanwhile, Lily’s unnamed friend suffered injuries to her head and ankle. She remains in hospital as of this writing but is expected to recover from the ordeal.
Following the incident, the police have arrested a 42-year-old suspect who is being questioned over his alleged involvement in the child’s death.
The prime suspect was allegedly arrested after he was apprehended and knocked out by a local who handed him to the police.
Recalling the tragic incident, one of the witnesses detailed how a neighbor tried to save the girl’s life before chasing the drunk driver and knocking him out.
“I heard a loud bang and went outside,” the unnamed local said.
“One girl, who was lying on the grass on the other side of the road, was being given CPR by a neighbor. I could tell she was in a bad way because when I went over I couldn’t feel any pulse and a police officer later arrived and took over the CPR.
“The other girl who was hit was lying a bit further up the road, near the bus stop, and I could see a lamp-post had also been damaged.”
The witness added: “The red Land Rover that was involved drove off, with bits of the lamp post on the bonnet, before going around the block and stopping.
“The neighbor who’d been doing the CPR chased after the driver and grabbed him when he got out of the car and knocked him out. Police then arrived and took him away.”
Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that the incident remains under investigation.
“Emergency services attended and a 10-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries where, despite the best work of hospital staff, she sadly died a short time later,” Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said.
“The other child was taken to hospital with an ankle and head injury where she remains in a stable condition.
“A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence. He remains in custody for questioning.”
Our thoughts are with Lily’s family and friends during these challenging times.
