A young girl collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing soccer with her team.
12-year-old Pyper Midkiff was an athletic young student from Phoenix, Arizona, who was practicing soccer with her Arizona Arsenal team when she suddenly fell to the ground on April 27.
After the girl’s collapse, Pyper’s father, Matt Midkiff, rushed to the scene to tend to his child. According to the reports, the dad was coaching another team at the time of the incident.
While the mother of one of Pyper’s teammates immediately performed CPR and helped the child recover her pulse, the pre-teen once again lost her heartbeat while on the way to the hospital.
From there, the 12-year-old was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital where she remains in stable condition as of this writing. As the doctors confirmed, the girl suffered a cardiac arrest while playing her favorite sport.
“She’s tried to get out of bed & reach for her lines & breathing tubes several times today. Oh she’s strong alright! She’s #pyperstrong,” the child’s mother, Jessica, wrote in an update about her daughter’s condition.
“We’re believing in a full recovery for Pyper & we feel everyone else is too!”
Paying a tribute to the little fighter was also Pyper’s dad who said an undiagnosed genetic condition was responsible for triggering the cardiac arrest.
“Everyone thinks their kid is special. Pyper has something special in her, and the world needs more people like her,” he expressed.
“The world needs more Pypers, and seeing what I just saw gives me more hope [and] faith.
“Sports and soccer is more than competition and the support over the past few days shows that everybody gets it over the past few days. Family is important and the kids and the players.”
