A 12-year-old girl who was watering tomato plants while holding her baby brother was forced to run for their lives after a bully suddenly opened fire at them.
Rubi Olivas and her little brother Julian were outside their home in Kansas City, Missouri, when the gunman appeared out of nowhere and fired at them.
Surveillance footage shows the girl walking next to a car while carrying her brother when the shooter started shouting at her.
Rubi immediately ran toward their home as the gunman, believed to be a bully, shot at her and her baby brother.
A woman can be heard screaming as Rubi opened the door and managed to get inside.
Both children were left unscathed, their mother Rosa Olivas said.
Rosa said that she was in the living room when she heard the gunshots. She then rushed to the door where she was hit by a bullet.
According to KCTV, the bullet broke the mother’s femur and she had to undergo surgery to have a rod inserted in her leg, the bullet still inside.
The gunman has been arrested but his identity hasn’t been released.
Rosa now advises other parents to ‘go talk to the school’ if a child is being bullied.
Speaking to KCTV, she said: “Take care of your kids, make sure they’re a priority. If they’re getting bullied, go to talk to the school, talk to the teachers, to the principal, to whoever you have to keep your babies safe.”
According to a Facebook post, the family will “move from the house” as Rubi was the “target.”
“There is ZERO chance of us going back,” Rosa said.
Her former coworker, Kaitlyn, set up a GoFundMe page to help the family pay for Rosa’s hospital bills.
