A young girl was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs while on her way home following a music lesson.
7-year-old Margarita Kanorskaya from Domna, Russia, was ambushed by several aggressive stray dogs as she was returning to her house via a narrow and isolated path.
According to the reports, the wild dogs disfigured the child’s face and bit her all over her body. They also managed to tear off one of her legs before dragging her body to the wilderness.
After the young girl’s unfortunate passing, angry residents launched protests in the area and lashed out at the local government for failing to heed their concerns about dangerous stray dogs roaming around freely.
“It is impossible to put our pain and grief into words,” regional governor Alexander Osipov said as he rushed to the town in an attempt to calm down the residents.
“On behalf of the whole region I express our support to all the child’s family. We will thoroughly investigate the tragedy.”
It has since the tragic incident also come to light that Margarita was the daughter of Major Anton Kanorsky, a decorated pilot whose bravery in Syria earned him recognition by President Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed that the girl’s mother had to be rushed to the hospital due to the shock after learning that her daughter was mauled to death by stray dogs.
“I’ve been crying all night long. I was myself attacked by several dogs. I was mauled, and luckily they didn’t touch the children walking back from school just beside me,” one local said after the horrific attack.
“What’s the difference now? Even if we take guns, or sticks, it won’t bring this child back. She was their only daughter,” another said.
While the governor warned that local officials were not allowed to get rid of stray dogs due to animal welfare laws, it has since the attack been reported that vigilante groups in the region intend to take matters into their own hands and shoot the roaming dogs.
