At least forty people were injured – some of them severely – after a tornado ripped through Germany.
According to the local reports, a massive storm with winds exceeding 80 mph disrupted traffic, flooded basements, and uprooted trees in central and western Germany on Friday.
As a tornado ripped through the city of Paderborn, roofs were ripped off houses and debris was sent flying miles away.
At least ten people were severely injured and had to be rushed to the hospital. It is believed that a total of at least forty people suffered injuries.
Heavy damages were also reported in Lippstadt where some one hundred people were trapped at a local pool after falling debris and trees prevented them from escaping.
Meanwhile, some 40,000 concertgoers who attended a Rammstein performance in Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena were told to take shelter, whereas the band was forced to retreat and take a 15-minute break.
German police also revealed that two French citizens were killed after their paraglider got caught in a gust of wind and crashed onto a field.
The accident reportedly took place in Ballenstedt where the two daredevils were told to land immediately after receiving news of a sudden change of weather.
While preparing for landing, “they appear to have been hit by a gust of wind that caused the paraglider to collapse, and the air vehicle crashed onto a field from a height of about 40 meters (131 feet),” the police revealed.
According to the reports, the storm first hit the west of Germany from where it moved eastwards across the country.
“A reminder that the climate crisis will not take a break and that extreme weather will continue to increase,” Green Party MP said of the storm.
