George Floyd’s 4-year-old niece has been shot during a ‘targeted attack’ on her home in Texas on Saturday morning at 3 am.
Arianna Delane underwent surgery after being hit by bullets that punctured her liver and lung, leaving her with three broken ribs.
Her family said that they know who opened fire and suggested that the attack was targeted but did not mention anything about the possible motive.
Speaking to ABC 13, Arianna’s father Derrick Delane said: “My daughter jumped up and said, ‘Daddy, I been hit.’
“I was shocked until I seen the blood and I realized my four-year-old daughter was really hit.
“She didn’t know what was going on. She was asleep.”
He said that he hoped his daughter would still be able to achieve her dreams of becoming a cheerleader or dancer.
“Why would my house get shot up?” the father asked. “My daughter don’t know. I can’t explain that to her. As the father, you’re supposed to protect the kids.”
Speaking about his daughter’s recovery, Delane said: “She’s healing very fast. The last time I checked on her she was breathing on her own. She was doing really great.”
The family claimed that police did not arrive until 7 in the morning – four hours after the shooting happened.
Houston Police Troy Finner said in a statement: “I am aware and have concerns regarding the delayed response time in this incident and have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation.
“I ask the city continue to pray for the child’s full recovery and assist in providing information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects responsible.”
