A Russian general has reportedly been killed by defending Ukrainian forces.
Local media reports claim that this marks the fall of the fifth senior Russian commander since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.
With the war entering its fourth week, the news is not a huge surprise to many as Russian forces have failed miserably at taking command of the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv.
The death of the commander took place during the battle on Friday, which is exactly 23 days after the war began.
Reports identified the commander as Lieutenant-General Andrey Mordvichev who is the commander of the country’s 8th army of the southern military district.
In the same way, it was revealed how he was reportedly killed during a strike by Ukrainian forces who attacked and destroyed a command post located in the airfield that was situated in Kherson.
Kherson is Ukraine’s leading port city that is situated in the southern part of the country, as confirmed by officials recently.
The sudden news of his death comes at a time when thousands of Ukrainian civilians began to flee from another of the country’s leading port cities of Mariupol.
Mariupol has been under attack and constant heavy bombardment for the past few weeks.
Ukrainian President Zelensky revealed how Russia is trying hard to starve the country’s cities but Ukraine’s forces are doing everything to stop them.
Similarly, the Ukrainian head of state mentioned how the time had come to sit down and hold talks with Putin. For that reason, he called upon the Russian head of state to stop the illegal invasion or face the consequences.
“The losses would be so much that it would take several generations of Russians to recover from it”- President Zelensky explained via his recent video address from outside the Presidential office on Friday.
