Four siblings and their mother were brutally killed by their stepfather before he set the apartment on fire and took his own life.
33-year-old Jessica McKisick and her daughters Natalie and Sofina Kleemeir, 14 and 12, and two three-year-old boys were reportedly shot and killed by Connor McKisick.
McKisick, the stepfather of the girls and father of the two boys, set the apartment on fire before turning the gun on himself.
The bodies were found after firefighters rushed to the building on Mansfield Court in Hartland. Other residents managed to get out of the property safely.
Hartland Police Chief Torin Misko said that all victims had one gunshot wound each and there was an ignitable liquid in the flat where more guns were discovered.
“This is a tragic incident for the family of the deceased, for our first responders and for the Hartland community,” he said.
More than 10 fire departments and nine police departments rushed to the scene for the fire, CBS 58 reported.
Resident and mother Ardita Gashi said her 13-year-old son heard an explosion ‘across the hall’ and quickly ran to wake up his sisters Amina, 8, and Adela, 15.
Fjolla Mustafa, a friend of the family revealed on GoFundMe: “He rushed them out of the apartment through their back door and lead them by the parking lot to safety where he then called his mom (who was working at that time).
“Everything they had was destroyed by the fire and smoke.”
Arrowhead High School remembered Natalie as a ‘caring person’ who ‘always had a good-hearted personality for everyone.’
Sofina and Natalie’s relative, Samantha Maass, setup a GoFundMe page for the funeral expenses and wrote: “While my cousin Kyle (the sisters’ biological father) mourns the loss of his children, I want to help raise money for the girl’s funeral. Anything will help, no matter how small or big your donation is.”
