Four young children were left orphaned after their mother was brutally killed by her ex-boyfriend.
37-year-old Jacqui Purton was hit with a white Holden Commodore sedan at a remote property in Campania, northeast of Hobart, leaving her eldest daughter to raise her three siblings alone.
According to reports, a 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder.
In a statement, Tasmanian Police said: “Police will allege the man was known to the 37-year-old woman who died from serious injuries after being struck by a car on a property in Native Corners Road.”
Purton’s grieving mother, Leanne Walford, said to Daily Mail Australia that her daughter and her ex-boyfriend met in 2019.
“We don’t know the details, or why he was there on Monday, or anything except that he [allegedly] ran her over,” she said.
Purton’s sister said the mother-of-four tried to ‘live an amazing and free life’ and worked in a food van to provide for her children.
The horrific incident has left her four children, age 10, 12, 16, and 20, orphaned. The eldest daughter, Shakira, is now looking after her siblings.
A GoFundMe has been setup for the children, with Purton’s sister describing Shakira as an ‘amazing and strong’ girl as ‘she doesn’t want to break in front of those boys.’
“She wants to be there for them,” she added.
The family reportedly learned about Purton’s death on social media.
“My mum woke up and saw where it happened. She followed up and we had it confirmed,” Purton’s sister expressed.
She remember her late sister as a loving mom who ‘lived for her children.’
“She wasn’t always given an easy hand, but no matter what she still raised her kids as a single mum and hussled to make sure they never went without,” she added.
