A University of Georgia football star and a recruiting staffer died side by side in a tragic nighttime car crash on Sunday.
According to the reports, 20-year-old offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiter Chandler LeCroy were driving through Athens, Georgia, in a 2021 Ford Expedition when they collided with another vehicle at around 2.45 in the morning.
It was since confirmed that Willock was sitting in the passenger’s seat and that he was pronounced dead on the scene. Meanwhile, LeCroy was rushed to the hospital but died on the way.
Two other passengers in the car were reportedly injured but are currently in stable condition.
The horrible news comes just hours after the Bulldogs offensive linemen and his team celebrated their second straight national championship.
“The entire Georgia family is devastated by the tragic loss of football student-athlete Devin Willock and football staff member Chandler LeCroy,” the University of Georgia’s Athletic Association announced in a tear-jerking statement.
“Two other members of the football program were injured in the accident. They are both in stable condition, and we will continue to monitor their status with medical personnel.”
The statement added: “Devin and Chandler were two special people who meant so much to the University of Georgia, our football program and our athletic department. We ask that everyone keep their families in your prayers during this very difficult time.
“The UGA Athletic Association will work with our medical team as well as our mental health and performance personnel to make sure we are providing the best support possible for our staff and student-athletes who are processing this grief.
“We can provide no further comment at this time but ask that everyone continue to keep those involved in your prayers.”
Our thoughts remain with Willock and LeCroy’s families as the investigation into the crash continues.
