Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac passed away suddenly at the age of 79.
According to the reports, the keyboardist and vocalist of the British-American rock band died after a battle with a “short illness.”
“She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th following a short illness. She was in the company of her family,” her family revealed in a statement.
They went on to brand the singer as a “revered musician who was loved universally” while asking the public to respect the family’s privacy.
“We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being,” the statement added.
Christine joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 and stayed with the band for 28 years before leaving after rumors of an increasing rift between the band’s members.
Later, in 2014, McVie made a famous return to the rock band.
Expressing the sadness over the loss of the “one-of-a-kind” musician were Christine’s former bandmates who described her as “the best friend anyone could have in their life.”
Joining in paying the vocalist a tribute were dozens of other entertainment figures including The Doors team who sent their condolences to the singer’s family, friends, and fans.
Rock musician Sheryl Crow added: “I am so sad to hear of Christine McVie going on to heaven. The world feels weird without her here. What a legend and an icon and an amazing human being.”
Musician Tim Burgess said: “Farewell Christine McVie you were the best. Mystified, one of the greatest songs ever.”
Branding the 79-year-old as an “elegant songwriter” with an “unforgettable voice,” Podcaster Bill Simmons expressed: “RIP Christine McVie – elegant songwriter, unforgettable voice, and a crucial member of one of my favorite bands ever.point 434 |
