Two young sisters were among the twelve people who lost their lives in the Philadelphia apartment building fire.
On Wednesday morning, a massive blaze erupted at 860 North 23rd Street in Fairmount, Philadelphia, and caused the death of at least twelve people including seven children.
As of this writing, the cause of the fire is still unknown and the blaze remains under investigation.
Since the tragic incident, it has come to light that two young sisters were among the victims killed in the massive fire that took over the residential complex.
30-year-old Virginia Thomas and 33-year-old Rosalee McDonald are being mourned by their family members who fear that the sisters’ children might have suffered a similar fate.
As Aneisha Thomas, the sisters’ cousin, said in an interview with Philly Inquirer, she fears that McDonald’s six kids and Thomas’ five children were trapped in the blaze as well.
As of this writing, the family is still not sure if all of the kids survived the fire or if some didn’t make it out alive.
“When I go visit Philly, it’s going to be a void. It’s going to be a blank stare when I visit because of how I can’t go visit them,” Thomas told the publication.
Speaking out about the tragedy was also the victims’ surviving sister, Jacuita Purifoy, who revealed that the family is still waiting for the final list of casualties.
“I don’t have no emotion, so I can’t really speak about nothing because I’m still trying to figure out what’s going on, just like everybody else,” Purifoy told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney paid a tribute to all the victims as he called the fire “without a doubt one of the most tragic days in the city’s history.”
Our thoughts are with the victims of the blaze and their families during these challenging times.
