The grieving father whose young son tragically died in his wife’s hot car doesn’t believe the mother should face charges.
Trace Mean, 5, died on Monday in the back of a Porsche SUV after his mother Amanda Means, 36, left him in the car for almost three hours.
Investigators think that the mother forgot her son was still strapped into his car seat when she went inside their $1.4 million home to prepare a party for his 8-year-old sister’s birthday.
But by the time Amanda realized the blunder, her son had already perished in the sweltering Texas heat.
The mother-of-two hasn’t been hit with charges as the investigation continues.
According to Daily Mail, Trace’s parents were going through a divorce and he had just spent Father’s Day with his dad Steve Means, 48.
“Daddy, you’re my best friend,” the little boy’s heartbreaking final words to his dad.
The grieving father wants answers over the death of his son but he is not demanding his wife face charges, his attorney Gary Block said.
“He is in tears, he’s beside himself, but the last thing he wants is for Amanda to be criminally punished. She is going through enough already,” Block said.
“He knows that she is their mother, no matter what happened, and that there was nothing done on purpose. All he wants to do right now is make sure his daughter is OK and that everyone can begin to heal.”
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales said that when the mother noticed her son was missing, she ran outside and found him still buckled in his car seat.
“The child apparently had that ability (to unbuckle himself) but this is a loaner and we don’t know if that was a factor or maybe the child was asleep and got disorientated with the temperature as hot as it is. We don’t know. That will be part of the investigation,” Gonzales added.
