An unidentified man died after falling onto the subway tracks while walking between moving train cars in Brooklyn.
A man was killed after falling between subway cars at Park Slope station in Brooklyn on Sunday. He fell onto the subway tracks while walking between moving train cars.
Authorities believe that the unidentified man somehow slipped while walking between the cars of a southbound F train around 5:45 pm yesterday near the 7th Avenue and 9th Street F and G station.
First responders came immediately and remove the body from the subway tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene and authorities are still investigating the case.
New York City’s subway system is the largest in the United States and one of the largest in the world. Every day, about 4.3 million people use the subway to go to work, to the university, or any other place in the city.
With so many people taking the subway, it is inevitable that some of them will be injured in an accident. According to the Metro Transit Authority (MTA), 158 people were killed by subways in 2020.
Even though the authorities take safety very seriously, hundreds of individuals are harmed in subway premises each year due to the authorities’ negligence.
Last January 19, two men were struck by NYC subway trains, one was killed while another one was severely injured. It all happened after they were struck by subway trains in different areas of New York City within hours of each other.
In the first incident, a 35-year-old male was walking between train cars on the southbound J train in Lower Manhattan about 9 pm when he fell onto the tracks below and was struck by the moving train, according to the NYPD.
A Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) spokesperson said preliminary information indicated the subway rider “was smoking in between train cars when he slipped down to the tracks.”
The subway track incidents coincide with a weekend of violence on the NYC subway system where the NYPD reported five stabbings incidents. It followed NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ announcement of a citywide subway safety plan aimed at reducing crime and homelessness.
Mayor Adams said: “It is the subway system, and our buses make New York what it is.
If they’re not safe, if people don’t feel safe and if the numbers of crime are not reflective of who and what we want to be as a city, it’s going to impact us.Public safety and justice, they are the prerequisite to prosperity.
