At least five tourists have been left stranded at Arizona’s Grand Canyon Caverns after the elevator broke down.
According to reports from local media outlets, the people fell 200 feet underground when the terrifying incident took place. And now, rescue and relief reports are being made to help reach them as soon as possible.
The police began investigating as to why these tourists were told to use the elevator and not the stairs like others in the same area. And that’s when it was revealed how the tourists had some medical conditions that made it hard for them to walk up flights of stairs.
On the other hand, more details in the investigation spoke about how the tourists became stranded all of a sudden because the elevator they were traveling in malfunctioned.
This particular location was described to be the largest dry cavern in the country and that is where a giant underground suite can also be found.
There’s even an attached restaurant present with it as confirmed by NBC News recently.
“There were about 20 flights of stairs and it would just be impossible for the people present there to climb them since they had medical conditions”- confirmed one of the witnesses.
The latest reports spoke about how rescue services are doing their best to retrieve those stranded but others called the matter to be one that was nothing less than a nightmare in Peach Springs.
Elevator personnel is trying their best to repair the lift by hooking up a generator but so far the plug-in has not been too successful.
Loved ones of those trapped inside are reaching out to authorities and the media to get more information on the matter.
