A father-of-five from Minnesota has been charged with beating his ex-wife in front of their children aged between three and nine.
31-year-old Anders Odegaard and his ex-wife Carissa married in 2011 but divorced in 2021 as there had been an ‘irretrievable breakdown of the marriage.’ They shared legal custody of their five young children.
According to reports, the mother-of-five had gone to pick up their children for church but Anders suddenly became furious and started attacking her.
Their 9-year-old son quickly ran out of the house and alerted a motorist, who went to the property and saw the unresponsive mother.
A police report obtained by Daily Mail shows that the children saw the traumatizing incident unfold.
The driver who was flagged down by the siblings and called 911 told police “their mom was bleeding really bad and needed help.
“He spoke to the older of the two boys who said his mother was inside the house laying on the floor bleeding really bad. The boy said that he thinks that she is dead.”
The stranger also asked the child who was in the house and the boy said that their father was inside with their mother.
Anders reportedly came out “from the kitchen area and was standing in just his gray boxer style briefs,” the police complaint reveals.
“He noticed he had what looked to be blood smeared on his left eyebrow and blood in his hair.”
When police asked what had happened, Anders said “I don’t feel right.”
Carissa was found unconscious on the floor. The 4-year-old sister and 6-year-old brother were in the car’s driveway while the 3-year-old boy was still in his mother’s arms.
“The toddler would not say anything. He did see what happened because his mother had been holding him at the time of the assault,” the police said.
The children are now being cared for by Carissa’s family, who are now raising money to help pay for the funeral expenses and care for the children.
