A father was arrested after accidentally killing his young son while punishing the boy for failing to answer his homework questions.
12-year-old Shaheer Khan from Karachi, Pakistan, was left with extreme burns to his body and face after his father doused him in kerosene and lit up a match right next to him.
According to the local reports, the boy’s father, Nazir, got angry with his son after finding out the boy hadn’t finished his homework.
That’s when Nazir poured fuel on his son and attempted to “terrify” him by lighting a match next to him.
While the father insisted he didn’t want to burn his son, the kerosene quickly caught fire and left the boy with severe burns.
Two days after the incident, the 12-year-old succumbed to his wounds at a local hospital.
His grieving mom, Shazia, has since spoken out and recalled hearing her son’s screams before charging into his room. There, the two parents covered the boy in blankets and clothes in an attempt to put out the fire.
After receiving the dreadful news of her son’s passing, Shazia filed a police report against her husband. Nazir has since been arrested and is set to remain in custody until his court appearance on September 24.
As Salim Khan of the police force told local media, Shaheer’s father became enraged because the boy wanted to fly a kite before finishing his homework.
While the boy agreed to do his homework, his father was further angered when he took a look at it and saw that his son provided “unsatisfactory answers.”
Khan also insisted the father told the police that he only doused the boy in kerosene and lit a match in an attempt to scare his son and get him to properly answer his homework questions.
