Robert Crimo Jr. has come under scrutiny after it was revealed that he helped his son, Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo III, apply for a FOID card just weeks after the then-teenager threatened to kill himself and his family.

According to the reports, the application for a firearm owner identification card was filed back in 2019, whereas Robert Crimo Jr. filled out a consent form his son needed for his application to be approved.

Following the approval, the now-21-year-old used his FOID card to buy a series of firearms including a Glock 43 pistol, a Remington 700 rifle, and the Smith & Wesson M&P he used to kill people during the Highland Park Fourth of July parade shooting.

Despite playing a major role in helping his son get his hands on the weapon used in the mass shooting, Robert Crimo Jr. denied any responsibility for his son’s actions.

“They do background checks. Whatever that entails, I’m not exactly sure. And either you’re approved or denied, and he was approved,” he told ABC 7 Chicago.

Speaking to The New York Post, the father went on to say he has “zero” responsibility for the mass shooting.

“He bought everything on his own, and they’re registered to him. You know, he drove there, he ordered them, he picked them up, they did his background check on each one,” he added.

Meanwhile, the former Highland Park mayoral candidate’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, claimed that Crimo’s consent form was “no different than signing up your kid for driver’s ed.”

It has since the tragic shooting also been revealed that Robert Crimo III was planning another shooting in Madison, Wisconsin, before canceling his plans at the last moment following the Highland Park massacre.

After the young man’s arrest, the police found a compact foldable assault rifle Kel Tec SUB2000 on the passenger’s seat of the car the mass murderer used after the killings. It is believed that Crimo intended to use the foldable rifle in the other mass shooting he had planned.
