A father has been branded a hero after sacrificing his life in an attempt to save his young child from a burning home.
51-year-old Naemat Lawa Esmael was at his home in Swansea, Wales, when a fire erupted and quickly ripped through the family’s property.
Determined to save his three-year-old son, the father rushed to the boy’s bedroom on the second floor with no regard for his own well-being.
Unfortunately, Esmael was unable to save his son and he suffered burns to eighty percent of his body in the attempt. The father was found lying on the front lawn by emergency services, and he died two days later in the hospital.
While the father and son both died in the tragic house fire, Naemat’s wife, Sharmeen Ahmed, and 13-year-old daughter survived the ordeal with minor injuries including smoke inhalation.
Following the doting dad’s premature death, authorities confirmed that the cause of the fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
Meanwhile, Naemat’s daughters Lara and Lawa spoke out to pay their father a tribute and remember him as a “pillar of strength” and a “devoted” dad.
“My father was a pillar of strength, a loving husband and a devoted father. He taught me the values of kindness, compassion and perseverance,” they said at a vigil.
“His laughter filled our home with joy and his wisdom guided us through life’s challenges.
“Muhammad, my little brother, brought sunshine wherever he went. His infectious smile and playful spirit brightened our days. He was full of curiosity, always eager to learn and explore.”
According to the local police, the origin of the fire currently remains under investigation.
“Our thoughts remain with the family, friends and the local community following this tragic incident. We are working alongside the fire service to establish the cause of the fire,” Detective Inspector Carl Price said.
