A family was left devastated after a hardworking father-of-five died suddenly.
48-year-old David Darling of Boddington, West Australia, was described as a healthy and fit man who died without a warning when he suffered a heart attack while taking a shower.
His heartbroken fiancée, Jess Thorne, has since spoken out and confirmed that her partner had seen a physician for a general check-up just days before his sudden death. The check-up revealed no health issues.
“He was exactly the same as he always is, he was laughing and joking and full of life. Nothing was different there were no signs it just happened. How the hell can this happen to someone who was doing everything right?” the grieving widow said in an interview with Daily Mail Australia.
Recalling the shocking moment she was awakened by her struggling husband’s “horrific” sounds like “wailing and gurgling,” Thorne added: “I shot straight up in bed. I looked over, he was gone.”
She went on to say that she began slamming on the locked bathroom door after her partner stopped responding. She then ran to the kitchen and picked up a butter knife with which she managed to break the door open.
“As I looked down he was staring straight up back at me,” she added.
Thorne also explained that her husband was fit and healthy and that his only health issue was Type 2 diabetes which he was allegedly managing really well.
“We were healthy eating the whole lot to make sure the kids had really good role models,” the mom-of-five said.
“He was very much into his martial arts always practicing with the kids that’s how our TV ended up getting smashed.”
Thorne continued: “We’re broken. We’re shattered. The kids understand that Daddy’s not coming back. My littlest one after it happened she would look at the toys she and her daddy would play with and she will not touch them anymore. It’s so hard to convince my boys to get of the car and come into the house.”
