With less than two weeks away from the FIFA world cup beginning, Qatar is giving the world a first-hand glance at what supporters can expect in terms of their living space.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say it’s not the best first impression by miles and many were certainly not happy with what was on display.
The tiny country is the first Muslim nation to be given the chance to play host to such a major soccer event and with so many restrictions already in place, people can’t help but wonder what could be next.
So when it came down to the fan village itself that would be the home of so many supporters, there were a lot of things left to the imagination.
Many referred to them as ‘pre-fab’ hotels that had the ability to house up to 60,000 supporters.
Viral images showed hundreds of shipping containers being laid out in the desert. They weren’t what you’d expect at a foreign country that’s playing host to the FIFA World Cup this year but sometimes, you’ve got to makeshift depending on the situation.
There are tea and coffee facilities, two single beds or a double bed, a restroom, a mini fridge, and more in every cabin. So as you can see, it’s for two people.
The country is a strict Muslim nation that follows the Shariah law and by that, we mean no drinking, gambling, indecent acts, and more.
As it is, the country has stated time and time again how they’re willing to welcome travelers from all around the world with open arms. But if you don’t respect the law, prepare to leave.
