A grieving family is suing vacation rental company Airbnb after their 19-month-old daughter tragically died.
Parents Boris and Lydie Lavenir and their five children were staying at a lakehouse in Wellington, Florida, when the devastating incident happened.
After their 19-month-old daughter Enora spent the morning playing with her siblings, Lydie put her down for a nap.
But their happy and relaxing vacation suddenly turned into a living nightmare when Lydie tried to wake Enora up two hours later.
“Enora’s dead!” she creamed after finding the young girl with foam coming out of her mouth.
The parents called 911 right away but Enora was declared dead after paramedics arrived.
An autopsy later revealed that the little girl had died after a lethal amount of fentanyl entered her system.
Speaking to the Washington Post, the family said they had never heard of the substance until they received the shocking results from the Palm Beach County medical examiner.
It is not known how Enora came into contact with the toxic substance.
According to the news outlet, investigators were not able to find any trace of the opioid in the rental property. Both parents also tested negative for the drug.
One of the investigators said in the report: “I am unable to develop probable cause for abuse or neglect leading to the death of Enora. Currently the manner of death is listed as accidental.”
The grieving family then decided to sue Airbnb, the owner of the property, as well as the previous tenant who hosted a party at the lakehouse two weeks before their daughter’s death.
The previous tenant told investigators that the party did involve coca*ine but reports said that there were no traces of the drug tied to the youngster.
The previous tenant also said that they cannot be blamed for how the property was cleaned after their checkout.
Thomas Scolaro, the family’s attorney, told The Post that he firmly believes that the fentanyl ‘was definitely in that unit, that Airbnb.’
“What I want to show is Airbnb provided no cleanup, no warning, no measure of safety for the family,” Scolaro added.
The grieving father also agreed, saying: “What is certain is, Enora had contact with fentanyl in the Airbnb.”
