The grieving families of the two young girls who accidentally hanged themselves while trying the ‘Blackout Challenge’ on TikTok are now suing the social media platform.

It was in July 2021 when 8-year-old Lalani Erika Walton from Tennessee tragically died after hanging herself at home while Arriani Jaileen Arroyo, 9, from Milwaukee passed away in February 2021 because of the same challenge.

They insist that neither child was experiencing suicidal thoughts and that they just tried the Blackout Challenge,’ which encourages TikTokers to choke themselves until they passed out.

According to reports, Walton was discovered in her bedroom “hanging from her bed with a rope around her neck.”

When officers checked her tablet and phone, they found that she had been watching blackout challenge videos.

Arroyo was found in the basement of the family home ‘hanging from the family dog’s leash.’ She was taken to a hospital where she was hooked onto a ventilator. However, she was found to be brain dead.

Just last year, another girl from Philadelphia was found unconscious in her mother’s bedroom closet.

Nylah Anderson reportedly hung herself using a purse strap after watching videos related to the challenge.

Her grieving mother, Tawainna, said TikTok is to blame for her daughter’s death as the videos were ‘thrust in front of’ her.

“Nylah endured hellacious suffering as she struggled and fought for breath and slowly asphyxiated until near the point of death.”

Nylah spent five days in the ICU and passed away on December 12, 2021.

Her grieving family’s lawsuit blames TikTok for designing an app that encourages dangerous challenges to children.

The Chinese-owned company said in a statement before the lawsuits were filed: “This disturbing ‘challenge,’ which people seem to learn about from sources other than TikTok long predates our platform, and has never been a TikTok trend.

“We remain vigilant in our commitment to user safety and would immediately remove related content if found.”

The company has blocked #BlackoutChallenge from its search engine.
