Rapper R Kelly has been sentenced to up to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of s*x trafficking last year.
The world waited for the sentencing verdict patiently as many wished to see the celeb punished for carrying out such a huge crime and going unnoticed for such a long span of time.
Prosecutors are now seeking a 25-year-long sentence but they were met with great resistance from the celeb’s legal team who began to appeal against the decision.
According to them, R. Kelly reportedly suffered from traumatic child abuse during his own childhood and for that reason, they felt the need for the sentencing to be reduced to just ten years or even less for the rapper.
“The rapper deserves leniency. He suffered from great abuse and poverty as a child and these factors should matter. The sentencing cannot be so strict”- the lawyers continued to mention in their appeal.
The sentencing took place recently at a New York Federal Court where the R&B star was reportedly found guilty last year for the huge criminal offense after he undertook the trial.
The case was described by activists as a significant one related to the ‘Me Too Movement’ where many hoped to see justice served and we believe that time has finally arrived.
R. Kelly’s lawyers are also arguing on behalf of their client, mentioning how the celeb also deserves to get a break in between because the matter as a whole is just too overwhelming, and taking his past into account, it can have a negative impact on his health.
Thanks to a shocking documentary series that aired the rapper’s horrifying actions, outrage poured in from all around the globe where many were appalled at the star’s audacity to carry out so much sexual misconduct against young females.
