School shooter Ethan Crumbley was questioned by school officials after teachers took notice of his chilling notes.
It was previously revealed that the 15-year-old gunman, who has since been charged with terrorism and murder, had a meeting with his parents and teachers on Tuesday morning just hours before the shooting.
Now, it has emerged that the meeting about the boy’s behavior was arranged after a teacher found a worrisome sketch on Crumbley’s desk.
“The thoughts won’t stop. Help me,” the teen wrote next to a drawing of a gun. The note also featured a person being shot and a picture of a bullet along with captions such as “the world is dead” and “my life is useless.”
Despite the fact that the concerning note was shown to the boy’s parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, during the meeting with school officials, the parents allegedly refused to take the boy home and he was eventually allowed to return to class.
Just hours later, he shot and killed four students and injured seven more.
“The notion that a parent could read those words and also know that their son had access to a deadly weapon that they gave him is unconscionable and I think it’s criminal,” Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald said.
“I am angry. I’m angry as a mother. I’m angry as the prosecutor. I’m angry as a person that lives in this county.
“We need to do better in this country. We need to say enough is enough for our kids, our teachers, parents, for all of us in this community and the communities across this nation.”
McDonald also revealed that there’s a “very strong possibility” that the 15-year-old had his dad’s gun with him in his backpack during the meeting with teachers because lockers are currently not being used.
“The event that caused the teacher concern and that had the school officials bring parents to school was – it’s hard to look at that, what was produced at that meeting, and everybody looked at, it’s very hard to look at that and say that there was no concern,” the prosecutor told CNN.
“And unfortunately, he was allowed to get back to class. And we now know he had a weapon with him at that time. And that is simply tragic. And it’s my job to hold people accountable who violate the law. And that’s all I can say right now.”
