On April 1, the 26-year-old trans actress and social media influencer sparked fury across America as the news of her partnership with Bud Light spread.

Since then, figures have suggested that Bud Light sales plummeted drastically in all regions across the States. Things also haven’t been easy on Mulvaney who became the main target of the controversial partnership’s critics.

Now, Mulvaney has broken her silence and suggested transphobia was responsible for making trans people feel like they’re living in the Wild West.

During her appearance on the Dear Schuyler podcast, she said: “I remember even in college, just a few years ago, if one person potentially didn’t like me it would keep me up at night and now there are hundreds of thousands of people that do not like me.

“I still sometimes can’t sleep, but it in a weird way it has been a blessing to break that people-pleasing mentality, because there’s no way that I can win those people over.”

She continued: “If you go back to some of my earlier videos, I was pleading with these people, I was like, ‘What can I say to show them a different part of myself? What can I do?’”

Speaking to the trans influencer was host Schuyler Bailar, a trans swimmer who competed in the NCAA’s men division, who acknowledged the fact that most headlines Mulvaney recently appeared in were “not so good.”

“Oh, I know,” the actress responded before elaborating on her decision to withdraw from social media in the wake of the backlash.

“I’ve been wondering a lot this past week what the psychological effects are, and will be, of being called a man thousands and thousands of times a day.”

She further suggested it was unfortunate she had to silence people by limiting comments or turning off private messages because this meant she also couldn’t stay in contact with her supporters.

“What would make me more sad than anything is if I was too hardened as a person or become jaded or not care, because I care so deeply that I like that part of myself. Sometimes I think that we need to find the balance there,” Mulvaney concluded.
