Four young siblings have reportedly drowned in one of the most dangerous floods striking the state of Kentucky recently.
According to local media reports, the tragedy took place today when the young kids were swept away by water and hence could no longer cling to their mother’s arms.
Hours of unrelenting floods and rain have wreaked havoc in Kentucky with the current death toll standing at 16. However, authorities claim the figure could double in amount.
6-year-old Riley Jr. and 4-year-old Nevaeh Noble were a part of the many bodies that were washed away and found dead by authorities during the poor weather situation. The news was announced by the victim’s mom’s cousin who says she is beyond heartbroken to see what has happened.
“They continued to hold on to their parents for so long. And then we saw them clinging to a tree”- one witness explained. But that was the end. The intense power of the floods was just too much for them to bear and they couldn’t be saved, ultimately letting go and drowning.
The Kentucky state governor mentioned how there are several children in the current death toll, which is expected to rise in amount to more than double as so many victims are still unaccounted for.
At the moment, emergency services are scrambling to carry out more rescue services and save people.
There are more tragic reports of so many homes and businesses being obliterated due to the torrential rains wreaking havoc. But many fear that the flooding is yet to come to an end.
Weather forecasters have issued a new alert for more heavy downpours, advising citizens to take cover and stay inside as there could be poor weather and heavy rain continuing for the next 18 hours.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms have caused a huge puddle in the area and there have even been huge mudslides and serious damage being done in the aftermath so far.
