The forensic diving expert assisting in the search for missing mother-of-two Nicola Bulley has pulled out of the search and said that ‘she’s not there’.
The 45-year-old reportedly disappeared while taking their family dog Willow for a walk around the River Wyre in Lancashire.
The mortgage advisor had just dropped off her children, aged 6 and 9, off at school.
At around 9 am, Ms. Bulley logged on to a Microsoft Teams call, which ended at 9:30 am.
An hour later, a passerby found her dog running around in a distressed manner. Ms. Bulley’s phone was also found on a bench next to a river and it was still connected to the conference call.
Days after she vanished, forensic experts and Lancashire police revealed that one of their working hypotheses is that the mother-of-two had fallen into the river and drowned, adding that this was ‘not suspicious but a tragic case of a missing person.’
But forensic diving expert Peter Faulding has rejected it. In an interview with Talk TV, he said that he is ‘truly baffled’ by the case.
He said he doesn’t believe the mother fell into the river and if she had drowned, the body would’ve been found by now.
Now, it has been revealed that Faulding and his team will be calling off their search for the 45-year-old.
When asked by reporters about what he thought happened to Ms. Bulley, Faulding responded: “Normally a drowning victim goes to the bottom. There was a bit of flow on the river that day, I wasn’t here on the day it happened but normally we recover them within a few meters.”
He went on: “My only point there is that the police divers did thoroughly search that stretch of water – a highly competent search in that part of the river.
“Obviously you’ve got the weir in the way. We’re not always right, we do our best, but if Nicola has managed to get over the weir and she’s gone down that way then I would have thought that she would have surfaced by now and been found by dog walkers.”
