The disgraced Uvalde Police chief who was responsible for calling out the shots for a rescue operation during a horrifying school shooting has now been fired.
According to local media outlets, the decision was announced through a vote from the board who voted unanimously in favor of having him out.
Many parents and citizens called for his immediate removal after his police officers stood by while the gunman continued to kill a total of 19 students and two teachers.
Pete Arredondo has been accused of ordering officers to stand back for a good 60 minutes because he felt or thought or assumed the gunman had been tackled and cornered. But little did he know that it was not the case.
His miscalculations or error cost so many innocent lives as the shooter continued his bloody shooting spree for an entire hour.
A total of 19 students and two teachers were reportedly killed, sources explained, leaving so many families torn apart forever.
The board of trustees says their vote to have the police chief dismissed was a long time coming. For them, waiting for three months to pass was just agonizing. But now that it’s done, they’re glad as that’s what they feel he deserved.
The shooting was marked as one of the deadliest events in the country’s history, which occurred at Robb Elementary School.
While the former police chief didn’t actually physically attend the meeting, citing his own safety, many experts claim the real reason had to do with the fact that he knew what was going to come out of it.
But he did send out a long 17-page document where he outlined why he should be allowed to keep his job.
That failed to make any form of an impact with furious speakers at the meeting. For them, it was just about getting justice and holding those accountable for poor decision-making. And he happened to be the leader in that regard.
